ANNE MURRAY

(May 15, 2008)

PETER CASE: How often to you get to see a Grammy-nominated folk singer perform in a comfy pub? It's happening Wednesday night, when Peter Case, former lead singer of The Plimsouls, performs at the Lionshead (137 John St. S.). Case's most recent album was nominated for best traditional folk album last year at the Grammys. Bill Majoros, of Foreign Films and Flux AD, opens the show which starts at 9:30 p.m.

chamberWORKS!: Hamilton's favourite chamber ensemble returns Sunday to the Dofasco Centre for the Arts (190 King William) to perform Mozart, Dohnanyi, Rota and Spohr. Suzanne Shulman (flute), Mark Skazinetsky (violin), Jon Peterson (oboe), Chau Luk (viola), Michele Verheul (clarinet), Jack Mendelsohn (cello), Kathleen McLean (bassoon) Rob Wolanski (double bass), Christopher Gongos (horn). 905-522-7529

40 SONS AND DAUGHTERS: The people's choice award winners of the 2007 Hamilton Music Awards get together with fellow local rockers Porcelain Youth and Johnny Parente for an all-ages early show Saturday at the Casbah (306 King St. W.), 5:30 to 9 p.m. 40 Sons and Daughters came up winners recently in the Bodog Battle of the Bands. Tickets are $8 at the door, $7 in advance.

ANNE MURRAY is billing her current cross-country tour as her last. Anne is going out in style with a big band and a full string section. But if you haven't already got tickets for her Hamilton Place concert Wednesday, you're going to have a tough time finding them. Her latest CD, Duets, went double platinum in Canada and earned her two Juno nominations. Opening for Murray is boogie-woogie pianist Michael Kaeshammer.

JAMIE OAKES: You may have caught Jamie Oakes playing lead guitar during the nationally televised Juno tribute to Oscar Peterson last month. Besides backing Amy Sky, Marc Jordan, Tom Cochrane, Oakes writes and sings his own songs. It's always a pleasure to see him perform in his hometown -- tomorrow, 5 to 8 p.m. at Pepper Jack Cafe (38 King William), and Sunday, 8:30, p.m. at Slainte Irish Pub (33 Bowen).
