You are invited to get on stage, join the audience and go backstage as we search for the finest music this area has to offer.
In the two years since the launch of Jamilton, several hundred bands and musicians have uploaded bios, photos and songs to this popular music site on thespec.com
It’s been a big success with listeners and the local music community.
The natural next move was to showcase this talent in a big event.
That’s how the idea for Jamilton Talent Search came to be.
In the next few weeks, you will be invited to get on stage, join the audience and go backstage as we search for finest music this area has to offer.
Jamilton Talent Search provides an online setting for bands and all musicians to be recognized and to be eligible for a grand prize – a series of recording sessions provided by event co-sponsor Vibewrangler Recording Studio.
Beginning in late August, bands from Hamilton and Burlington will compete in weekly heats and music fans will be able to vote for their favourites online at Jamilton.ca.
Once the people have spoken and we're down to a short list of finalists, The Spectator will host a live event at a local venue, where a panel of expert judges will listen to the finalists, and select a winner. The winning band will receive three days of recording time at Vibewrangler, one of the top studios in the Hamilton area.
This is your chance to record top quality demos, or make your own CD.
To enter, you first need to send us your band bio, photo and a link to a You Tube video of your band performing.
Public voting will be based strictly on popularity, but our judging panel will be making their decision on specific criteria, such as originality, musical proficiency and stage presence.
We need your entry as soon as possible because the first 20 or so entries will be published in a special Jamilton Talent Search publication planned for the end of July.
The early bird deadline for band bios is Monday, July 21, 5 p.m. to get a free spot in this special magazine, which will be distributed throughout the city.
Go to Jamilton.ca for details and email your band profile, jpg and YouTube video link to jamilton@thespec.com (place “Jamilton Talent Search” in the email header field)
