Trinidad boasts great ecological and geographical diversity, from sandy North Coast beaches to forested peaks in the northern interior (excellent hiking trails), to the East Coast's protected wetlands and miles of beach lined by coconut palms. Port of Spain, the bustling capital, offers shopping, several historic buildings, many art galleries, the National Museum and lots of great food. There's a real diversity of people – a true representation of lively Trinidad.   More serene, Tobago is home to the oldest protected rainforest in the Western Hemisphere. European settlers fought over beautiful Tobago more than any other Caribbean island. This strip of land, just 41 by 14 kilometres, has palm-lined beaches, lush rain forests and coral reefs teeming with life.
